International Research & Development Africa Ltd (IRDA) manufactures a low-cost, clean alternative to traditional cooking solutions in the form of biofuel made from the stalk of sweet sorghum. Their ultimate goal is to provide this fuel to the 4.5 million peri-urban and urban households in Kenya that use charcoal or wood as cooking fuel, and to the 1 million Kenyan farming families that grow sweet-stalk sorghum. IRDA distributes the Bio Moto Cooker, an innovative cooker powered by the biofuel. This combination makes cooking more affordable and helps mitigate climate change by eliminating smoke, odors, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
