Company description
The National Transport and Safety Authority NTSA was established through an Act of Parliament; Act Number 33 on 26th October 2012. The objective of forming the Authority was to harmonize the operations of the key road transport departments and help in effectively managing the road transport sub-sector and minimizing loss of lives through road crashes.
Vision: Efficient, Reliable and Safe Roads in Kenya
Mission: To continually improve the accessibility of Kenya’s road transport system for all users.
Core functions: The main functions of the Authority as outlined in section 4 of the NTSA Act;
To advise and make recommendations on matters relating to road transport and safety.
To implement policies relating to road transport and safety
To plan, manage and regulate the road
To ensure the provision of safe, reliable and efficient road transport service.
Mandate
Registering and licensing of motor vehicles,
Conduct motor vehicle inspection and certification,
Regulate public service vehicles (PSVS),
Advise the Government on national policy with regard to the road transport sector,
Develop and implement road safety strategies,
Facilitate the education of members of the public on road safety,
Conduct research and audits on road safety,
Compile inspection reports relating to traffic accidents,
Establish systems and procedures for, and oversee the training, testing and licensing of drivers,
Formulate and review the curriculum of driving schools, and
Coordinate the activities of persons and organizations dealing with matters relating to road safety.
