BAT has a long history and rich heritage in Kenya, having begun operations in 1907 and has been listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange since 1969.

We operate a vertically integrated business, meaning that we are involved in activities ranging from the growing of tobacco leaf to the distribution and sale of finished tobacco products. All our operations are underpinned by responsible and sustainable practices.

We partner with over 5,000 contracted tobacco farmers in Kenya, mainly concentrated in the counties of Migori, Bungoma and Meru.

technicians and agronomists who work with farmers to drive sustainable agricultural practices. We also provide farmers with certified maize seeds to promote food security through crop diversification and maintaining the integrity of farm soils through crop rotation. Further, we facilitate arrangements with strategic partners for facilities such as interest-free farmer loans and crop insurance and support farmer Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) programs which provide avenues for additional income generation.

BAT Kenya serves as a manufacturing hub for Kenya’s domestic market and BAT operations in East & Central Africa, as well as export markets across Eastern, Central and Southern Africa, through its cigarette manufacturing plant in Nairobi and a green leaf threshing (GLT) plant in Thika.

Upon harvest, the tobacco purchased from our contracted farmers is first taken through our primary processing plant - GLT- in Thika, then to our cigarette making factory in Industrial Area, Nairobi.
