About Katiba Institute: Katiba Institute (KI) is dedicated to supporting the implementation of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, enhancing constitutionalism, and developing a culture of constitutional rights. KI engages in constitutional research, policy commenting, and publishing, focusing on litigation to enforce constitutional rights and duties. The institution, headquartered by a seasoned Executive Director and board, also has a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) unit led by skilled litigators and scholars.
About the Position: The Litigation Counsel will provide legal advice, support capacity building for local organizations and community partners, research constitutional matters, and develop and litigate strategic cases. The role includes maintaining robust partnerships across various sectors and adhering strictly to KI’s ethics and confidentiality standards.
Key Duties: Responsibilities include engaging in advocacy, strategic litigation, conducting research, providing legal advice, managing litigation files, developing PIL strategies, and educating stakeholders about constitutional and human rights.
Qualifications: Requires a law degree, a practising certificate, expertise in constitutional and human rights law, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong analytical and research capabilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and PDF editing.
